Making quality education accessible

The UN General Assembly’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs, are designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.”  St. Johns Swapnplay is proud to be aligned with three of these goals: making quality education accessible,  reducing inequalities, and promoting responsible consumption and production. How are we working towards these goals? So glad you asked! 🙂

The primary purpose of St. Johns Swapnplay is to serve the community with a safe and developmentally appropriate play space for children to socialize, play and learn; with resource sharing that reduces the financial burden of raising children; and with activities that benefit children’s growth and development.

Our large, safe, and engaging play space has been intentionally curated by early childhood experts inspired by Reggio-Emilio, Waldorf, and Montessori methodology to encourage literacy, imagination, motor skill development, socialization, and creativity.

We offer seven play zones that support the individual child from birth through seven years, and older. These rooms include dramatic arts, language arts, construction arts, creative arts, gross and fine motor, as well as sensory play. All zones inspire young learners and their caregivers to connect and get lost in the art of play! We invest in high quality toys and materials for families to engage with, and with an emphasis on child-led play throughout, St. Johns Swapnplay is unique and accessible to every child.

Weekly classes and activities, many led by fellow members, naturally foster language development, healthy habits, spatial-temporal, and visual- spatial skills to name just a few, all while emphasizing fun! Children and caregivers can make lasting social connections through our meet-ups and groups, like New Parents meet up, Working Families evening play, North Portland Sensory meet up, and Vegan Families meet up.

Each year we partner with many local learning organizations to host a free Preschool, Kinder, and Camp Fair to the community to connect with early childhood programs in and around Portland.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has changed how we offer some of these resources and activities, we’re still as active as ever, continuing to offer online learning activities, taking our free Preschool, Kinder, and Camp Fair virtual, and offering individual family and stable small-group play appointments in our indoor play space and outdoor playground and sensory garden. We are looking forward to hosting more community events outdoors as the weather warms this spring!
